Socso begins hunt for errant bosses

KUALA LUMPUR: Socso is on a nationwide hunt against employers who do not contribute to the organisation.

Chief executive officer K. Selvarajah said 501 officers from 46 Socso offices had been roped in for the nationwide effort. The operation starts this month.

“The inspections are to ensure that employers register with Socso and employees’ rights are protected under the Social Security Act 1969,” he said during the launch of Ops Kesan Perkeso 2011 for the Klang Valley yesterday.

He said employers had been made aware through the media during the two-month grace period to register with Socso before the massive inspection began on March 1.

Selvarajah said errant employers would be issued a compound penalty fine of RM1,000. Discounts may be allowed for new employers who register within a week.

If employers fail to settle the fine within a month, Socso will take them to court and they can be fined up to RM10,000 or jailed two years, or both, if found guilty.
