Job Description

The Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) is seeking a motivated Business Development Manager (BDM) with specific and extensive experience in the agriculture and food sectors. Austrade is the Australian government’s trade, investment and education promotion agency and supports Australian businesses to succeed in international markets.
Reporting to the Senior Trade Commissioner, your role is to provide services to Australian agribusiness firms looking to expand to Malaysia including providing advice on market conditions, market entry strategies, potential partners and the regulatory environment. You will also undertake market research, coordinate business programs and provide in-market support.
Build and maintaining networks with key business contacts, government agencies and other stakeholders in Malaysia will be an important requirement.  You will be part of a global team of experts providing strategic advice and driving commercial outcomes for business. You will work closely with businesses to determine their needs and help them develop international growth strategies specific to Malaysia. Working collaboratively with Austrade colleagues, you will provide commercial and market insights to support the enhancement of Austrade’s digital service channels. You will also represent Australia and Austrade in both corporate and government settings and clearly communicate Austrade’s services and value proposition to clients and partners.
The successful candidate will have knowledge, expertise and networks across international supply chains (food service, retail and/or e-commerce) especially relevant to the agriculture and food and beverage sectors. Experience across account management and business development roles supported by commercial acumen and consultative selling skills will be viewed favourably Demonstrated experience in the development and management of productive working relationships as well as proven ability to utilise a network to help achieve business results in an international context is important Excellent presentation and communication skills with a particular ability to influence and negotiate agreement with multiple stakeholders and promote Australia to a broad range of audiences is also a core capability. You should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the agribusiness and food industry in an international context including specifically Malaysia market policies, market regulations, market and customer dynamics, supply chain logistics and procurement.
This is a locally-engaged position governed by Malaysian Labour Law and Austrade’s Overseas Engaged Employees Terms and Conditions of Employment, and is subject to pre-engagement screening including security assessment. Candidates must currently have the right to live and legally work in Malaysia. It is essential that the successful candidate be a highly motivated team member and fluent in written and spoken English.
